Illustrative onion prices in an unnamed market. These names describe how a run of sessions changed shape; none of them states what came next.

04.07.03 · Advance block, stalled pattern, identical three crows

PreviouslyFour names along one ruler, overlapping where they meet.

Three sessions going the same way, and getting worse at it.

Three rising mornings in a row. Rahul counts them off and calls it three white soldiers, which is what 04.04.01 taught him. Lakshmi asks him to look again at the size of each board rather than the direction.

The direction is not the subject. The deterioration is.

The relationship

04.04.01 gave you a run of three sessions all going the same way. These three names add one condition to it: watch what happens to each session's body as the run continues.

A run where every body is as large as the last is one thing. A run where the second is smaller than the first and the third smaller again is a different picture made of the same three directions — and the catalogue has separate words for two degrees of it.

See it

Three rising mornings, each doing less

All three close higher. Watch the bodies shrink and the upper shadows grow.

The engine names this run Advance block. Nothing about the naming says the rise ends — only that these three sessions were each less decisive than the one before.

Advance block and deliberation are the same observation, twice

Both describe a rise losing conviction. They differ in where the loss shows up. Advance block wants it spread across all three — each body smaller, each session giving more back from its high. Deliberation, which most books call the stalled pattern, wants two full sessions and then one small one sitting near the top.

You could describe either run to somebody in a sentence and they would picture it. The two names exist because two writers described the same idea and both words survived.

And the caution from 04.02.05 governs both. A rise that slows is a rise that slowed. Calling it exhaustion requires knowing the rise ended, which is information from after the third board — and neither name contains it.

Identical three crows, and what “identical” is doing

The falling member of the group, and the only one of the three where the extra condition is sharp rather than a matter of degree.

Three black crows, from 04.04.01, asks for three long falling sessions where each opens back inside the previous body — a little recovery each morning before the selling resumes. Identical three crows removes the recovery: each session opens at about the previous close. No gap up, no bounce, nothing given back overnight.

Run the board through the grader and it returns Identical three crows and Three black crows together, most specific first. The stricter name never replaces the looser one — it sits on top of it, which is how the whole catalogue is arranged and worth seeing once.

A run that loses its stride has lost its stride. Whether it also loses its direction is not written on the boards that recorded it.

Illustrative example · the advance-block run, measured
First body
₹1.60, high ₹29.80, closed ₹29.60
Second body
₹1.20, high ₹30.60, closed ₹30.20
Third body
₹0.45, high ₹30.80, closed ₹30.45
Given back from the high
₹0.20, then ₹0.40, then ₹0.35
Direction of every session
up
What the fourth session did
not recorded anywhere on this run
72%of the first body was gone by the third session
3 of 3sessions still closed higher than they opened
Where you met this before04.04.01 taught three white soldiers and three black crows as runs. 04.02.05 taught why a big or slowing session cannot be called exhaustion on the evening it is written. Both arguments apply here unchanged, and neither is repeated.
Remember

These three take a run of three same-direction sessions and add a condition about how the run deteriorates. Advance block spreads the fading across all three; deliberation — the stalled pattern — puts it in a small final session; identical three crows removes the overnight recovery between falling sessions. The stricter name sits on top of the looser one rather than replacing it, and none of the three says the run has finished.

Everything this chapter has told you, in order

  1. 04.07.01A detection library answers what a shape is called; it has never answered what to do about it.
  2. 04.07.02There is no market event at 3% into the body that is absent at 0% — only a different word.
  3. 04.07.03A run that loses its stride has lost its stride; whether it loses its direction is not on the boards.
